Have you got a cold or cough that won’t go away? Or is your nose running like a tap? Maybe you feel like you just don’t have the energy. Have you considered a whole health approach; symptomatic treatment and preventative treatment to boost your immune system? There are many options for ‘immune boosters’ and without individual consultation, it can be difficult to know exactly what you may need and at what dose, however here are a few of my favorite herbs and vitamins:
-
Andrographis - clinically proven to increase the number of immune cells in the body and reduce severity of coughs, nasal discharge, sinus pain and even headacheI. - Echinacea - a great herb that is widely misunderstood. Be careful of the brand you buy and the part of the herb used. There are different varieties of Echinacea plant - some have good evidence behind them and others are wavering.
- Vitamin C - trusty Vitamin C. There is abundant evidence that the immune system is sensitive to Vit C. Again watch for the cheaper, low dose brands that have a higher amount of the more acidic C which can damage teeth and can give you stomach discomfort. Clinical evidence suggests at least 2g daily for a decrease in cold duration by 26%II.
