What have you done previously in your career?
My first job was designing a website for a designer jewellers and art gallery in my home town of Maleny, QLD. I didn't start working in pharmacy until my third year of university in Townsville, QLD. I was studying Biomedical Science with grand plans of becoming a cardiac surgeon. I met my partner, Ben, and decided I wanted a much different life. I left uni with only months to go to travel the country with Ben (it's still the best decision I ever made). Finding myself in pharmacy was pure luck - I walked into a pharmacy, asked for work and had a job on the spot!
How long have you been working in pharmacy?
12.5 years. I started working in pharmacy early 2007, at Aitkenvale Discount Drug Store in Townsville. I have since worked in many pharmacies in Townsville, Wagga Wagga, Albury, Wodonga, Richmond, Werribee and Geelong.
What brought you to Community Care Chemist?
I sneakily applied for a weekend pharmacist position when I was still a pharmacy student. Thanks for giving me a chance Julie!
What are you most passionate about in your job?
I think I am one of the lucky few who absolutely loves what they do. I enjoy the evolving science behind pharmacy practice and being a part of a very patient and community-centered health profession. I am particularly passionate about public health promotion and medicines management.
What's a fun fact about yourself/or what do you like to do outside of work?
I am a huge fan of the UFC and watching Muay Thai (no, I am not a fighter!) - my partner and I watch it every weekend (yay for UFC Sundays!)... and most other nights... and many mornings before work.
